SailPoint

Managing and protecting enterprise identities

Who is SailPoint?

SailPoint is a leading provider of identity security for modern enterprises. The platform places digital identities and their access rights at the center of enterprise security. The goal is to ensure at all times that the right identities have access to the right resources at the right time.

In doing so, SailPoint goes beyond classic Identity Governance & Administration. With the help of artificial intelligence and machine learning, the SailPoint Identity Security Platform helps organizations manage identities, access, risks, and policies in an intelligent, automated, and scalable way. Especially in cloud-based, hybrid, and complex IT landscapes, SailPoint helps create transparency over permissions and reduce security risks at an early stage.

SailPoint's solutions are designed for large organizations with high requirements for compliance, auditability, security, and automation. This gives organizations a robust identity security foundation to better defend against current threats and manage identity-related processes more efficiently.

What identity security solutions does the SailPoint portfolio include?

The SailPoint portfolio is based on the SailPoint Atlas platform. SailPoint Atlas is a modern identity security platform that helps organizations centrally manage identities, permissions, risks, and governance processes – without the need for extensive re-architecture or complex re-engineering of existing landscapes.

The platform uses artificial intelligence, machine learning, and automation to control access more intelligently, improve decisions, and make identity processes more efficient.

SailPoint Atlas – the central identity security platform

  • Intelligent insights: SailPoint creates comprehensive transparency over which identities access which applications, systems, and data. The integrated AI helps analyze permissions, risks, and anomalies. This allows organizations to better identify where over-privileged access exists, which permissions are no longer needed, and where potential risks are emerging in the identity environment.

  • Seamless automation: With customizable workflows, SailPoint automates core identity processes. These include onboarding, offboarding, access requests, approvals, policy enforcement, and recertifications. This automation reduces manual effort, speeds up processes, and minimizes sources of error. At the same time, business departments, IT, and security teams gain greater transparency and control over the entire identity lifecycle.

  • Comprehensive integration: SailPoint offers numerous integrations and connectors to centrally manage identities in hybrid IT landscapes. Applications, cloud services, directory services, HR systems, ITSM platforms, and other target systems can be incorporated into identity governance processes. This allows identity context to be integrated into relevant systems, creating a central view of users, roles, permissions, and risks.

When and in which scenarios does it make sense to use SailPoint?

SailPoint is particularly well suited for organizations that want to modernize their identity governance, efficiently meet compliance requirements, and reduce identity-related risks. The platform is especially relevant where many users, roles, applications, and permissions need to be managed.

Typical use cases include:

  • central management of identities and access rights
  • automating joiner, mover, and leaver processes
  • regular review and recertification of permissions
  • enforcing policies and approval processes
  • detecting and reducing over-privileged access
  • supporting audit and compliance requirements
  • integrating HR, ITSM, cloud, and target systems
  • analyzing identity risks with AI-supported recommendations
  • modernizing existing identity governance landscapes
  • building a scalable identity security architecture

SailPoint is especially valuable for organizations with complex organizational structures, many target systems, high regulatory requirements, or extensive cloud and SaaS use. The platform helps establish identities not merely as something to be managed, but as a core component of enterprise security.

Why is SailPoint relevant for compliance and regulation?

Identity governance is a core building block for compliance and regulatory requirements. Organizations must be able to trace at all times who has access to which systems, applications, and data – and whether that access is justified from a business, regulatory, and security perspective.

SailPoint helps organizations continuously review access rights, identify risks, and document governance processes in an audit-proof way. This makes it possible to meet regulatory requirements more efficiently and reduce audit effort.

SailPoint helps with, among other things:

  • traceable granting and modification of permissions
  • regular access reviews and recertifications
  • documentation of access and approvals
  • implementing segregation-of-duties requirements
  • detecting risky or over-privileged access
  • automating compliance reports
  • enforcing internal policies
  • reducing manual errors in identity processes

This makes SailPoint particularly well suited for regulated industries such as financial services, insurance, healthcare, energy, manufacturing, public-sector organizations, and other organizations with high requirements for security, traceability, and governance.

How does SailPoint differ from other vendors?

SailPoint stands out through its strong focus on identity security and identity governance. While many solutions primarily cover individual IAM functions such as authentication or access management, SailPoint focuses on the central question of which identities have which permissions, whether those permissions are appropriate, and how risks can be identified and reduced in an automated way.

Compared to classic IAM tools, SailPoint creates a governance and risk view across identities and permissions. This allows organizations not only to manage access but also to make informed decisions about risks, compliance, and security measures.

How is SailPoint's licensing model structured?

SailPoint offers a flexible licensing model that is typically based on the number of managed identities. Customers typically license the solution per active user or per managed identity.

Depending on requirements, various editions, feature packages, and extensions are available. These can include, for example, functions for identity governance, access management, cloud integration, compliance reporting, risk analysis, or automation.

The modular structure allows organizations to adapt SailPoint to their size, regulatory requirements, and functional needs. This makes it possible to manage costs and scope of functionality in a targeted way, without having to license unnecessary features.

What deployment models does SailPoint support?

SailPoint supports modern cloud- and SaaS-based deployment models and is well suited for organizations that want to make their identity governance landscape scalable and future-proof.

At the same time, SailPoint can be integrated into hybrid environments. Existing applications, directory services, HR systems, ITSM solutions, cloud platforms, and other target systems can be connected, allowing organizations to gradually transition their existing IT landscape into a modern IAM cloud architecture.

For organizations with existing SailPoint IIQ environments or planned development toward SailPoint Identity Security Cloud, IPG can provide support with strategy, migration, operation, and optimization.

IPG is an MSP Partner of SailPoint

With the acquisition of identic group AG in 2025, IPG gained years of SailPoint expertise as well as a broad customer base for SailPoint IdentityIQ and SailPoint Identity Security Cloud.

Since 2026, IPG has been a Managed Service Provider for SailPoint. As an MSP partner, IPG can offer bundles of SailPoint SaaS licenses and IPG application operations services. Currently, only a few certified partners in Europe participate in the program, as MSP‑status is awarded only selectively.

For customers, this means: they receive not only support with implementation, but can also obtain operation, ongoing development, and support for their SailPoint environment through IPG. This means SailPoint is not only deployed as a solution but also professionally operated and further developed over the long term.

Successful Customer Projects

IPG has extensive experience in SailPoint projects with high requirements for governance, compliance, automation, and integration. SailPoint is particularly relevant for organizations with complex permission structures, many target systems, and high regulatory requirements.

Customer projects frequently focus on topics such as identity governance, access reviews, role modeling, joiner-mover-leaver processes, compliance reporting, and the integration of HR, ITSM, and target systems.

Organizations benefit from greater transparency over identities and permissions, automated governance processes, reduced audit effort, and a stronger security foundation. At the same time, manual processes can be reduced, noticeably relieving the burden on identity teams in day-to-day operations.
